Physiotherapy

The objectives of physiotherapeutic rehabilitation at Villa Melitta

Physiotherapeutic rehabilitation refers to the external use of remedies and involves

  • the natural (chemical, physical and mechanical) stimulants provided by the environment that surrounds the patient, such as heat, cold, pressure, radiation and electricity
  • the physical and physiological condition of the patient

The objective of the treatment is to provoke natural and physiological reactions in the body (for example, muscle formation or the stimulation of the metabolism) in order to restabilise, maintain or improve the patient’s state of health.

These are the main objectives that Villa Melitta has set itself:

  • to promote the autonomy and independence of the patient, improving his or her state of health through natural and physiological reactions of the body (such as muscle formation or the stimulation of the metabolism)
  • to activate the body’s self-healing mechanisms
  • if the patient is unable to function independently, to inform family members about physiotherapeutic treatment (for example, in cases of serious neurological illness)
  • to reduce movement, and
  • in cases of irreversible loss of functions, to investigate opportunities for compensation.

Our physiotherapists analyse and interpret sensory/motor disturbance in bodily functions and development in order to intervene with the help of specific manual techniques or other physiotherapeutic techniques. The starting point is constituted by the system and motor behaviour, and the main objective is to eliminate pain and reduce the amount of effort required to move or, if there has been irreversible loss of function, to create opportunities for compensation.

The physiotherapists also act on problems with internal organs, improving the patient's perception of himself or herself and of others and enhancing social competence, which can, in turn, influence physical performance.

In order to offer each patient the most suitable and innovative treatment, we provide our personnel with ongoing training processes that are recognised the world over.

Our treatments include:

  • Bobath-based PNF (Proprioreceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation)
  • Maitland-based manual therapy
  • Kaltenborn Evjenth-based manual therapy
  • Cyriax
  • FBL (Klein Vogelbach-based functional kinetics)
  • MC Kenzie
  • spiral dynamics
  • Stecco
  • plantar reflexology
  • craniosacral therapy
  • osteopathic treatment
  • and others
