Shockwave therapy – the delicate alternative to surgery
Chronic pain, caused by overloading or by the formation of deposits on the insertion tendinosis, can be treated by the external application of shockwaves. Thanks to shockwave therapy, surgery can often be avoided.
For which conditions is shockwave therapy recommended?
Shockwave therapy using OssaTron® or EvoTron® is recommended for the following problems:
- Tennis or golf elbow
- Plantar fasciitis (with or without calcaneal spurs)
- Achilles tendon
- Patellar tendon rupture
- Shoulder tendonitis (calcific or not)
The therapy is carried out on patients whose conditions have not been successfully improved by conventional treatments. .
What actually happens during shockwave therapy?
Shock waves are high-energy sound waves that are generated by a special machine. The waves are targeted at the source of the chronic pain. The action of the shock waves leads to the reabsorption of calcific deposits, improved supply to the capillary vessels and reduced levels of pain.
What form does shockwave therapy take?
Shockwave therapy is an outpatient treatment that is delivered in our private healthcare facility.
What are the advantages of shockwave therapy?
- Thanks to the targeted action of the waves, the surrounding tissue is affected far less than it is with traditional treatments.
- Shockwave therapy does not require the intake of medicines.
- It allows you to avoid invasive surgery (with all of its associated risks).
- It has no side-effects and can be repeated if necessary.
- As an outpatient therapy, shockwave therapy reduces time off work or (for sportspeople) time away from training.
